Family Resources operates two transitional living programs in Clearwater and St. Petersburg Florida. Two local civic clubs have stepped forward to be the founding members of the Independent Living Scholarship Program. For the Clearwater youth, the Rotary Club of Clearwater has established a fund called Kingfish Scholarship Fund. The Northeast Exchange Club of St. Petersburg has established a fund for youth living in St. Petersburg. Both of these funds will help young people obtain safe housing upon their graduation from the Transitional Living Program. You may designate which fund you wish to support when you make a contribution. Below is a description of the program and how young people benefit from your support.
The Independent Scholarship Funds of Clearwater and St. Petersburg will create a financial opportunity for young people who, through no fault of their own, have found themselves in need of foster care while they are minors. Through abuse, neglect or abandonment, these youth have suffered tremendous loss from their biological families.
The scholarship fund will provide up to a $500 per person one-time assistance grant to help them with their housing needs, whether it be for rent, utilities, transportation, household items, or expenses associated with their employment. These funds will be paid directly to the vendor as needed. The recipients will be accompanied by a case manager when spending scholarship funds.
Our program is there to nurture, support and teach independent living skills so that by their 18th birthday, these young people have a fighting chance to succeed in life. We are not funded to financially support them as they make their way into the world, but a caring community can step in to help make sure that no young person, who has tried to the best of their ability, fails to establish themselves with proper and safe housing.
Please select the fund you are interested in supporting and you will be directed to a secure PayPal account that will be earmarked for each area of the county. If you would prefer to mail a check or make a donation over the phone, please contact us at 727-521-5213. Thank you for your support.
